Traditional bioinformatic platforms have and manage their own cloud tenancy. This means they own their AWS, Azure or GCP cloud accounts and your data has to be transferred to those accounts where it is exposed to a shared tenancy model with other companies. This means 1) you lose control over your data, 2) you lose data-residency, 3) you have to buy the cloud storage & compute cost at inflated, marked-up prices from these vendors and 4) if you want to change vendors you are subject to expensive egress charges.
Lifebit’s federated Platform-as-a-Service (FedPaaS) deployment means both the data and the computation always remain in your own cloud tenancy and cloud account – without it being shared with others. This means 1) you retain total control over your data, 2) data stays in your country and your organization’s infrastructure, 3) you benefit from the lowest possible cloud cost and can leverage special pricing with the cloud providers and 4) if your relationship with Lifebit were to end there is zero cost and no need for egress costs as the data always remains in your own environment.
Yes, you retain full control of your data and how it is used. With Lifebit’s federated Trusted Research Environment approach to data access, your data remains within your own environment and only administrators in your organization can control who can access the data and which part of the data they can see. In multi-party federation, anyone who needs access to the data will need to be authenticated in each node following an IRB approval and this will be authorized by your data administrators. Access is granted on a need-to-know basis and strictly monitored to ensure compliance with data protection standards.
No, Lifebit does not have any rights over the use of your data without express permission from your organization. Lifebit provides the technology that enables the management and processing of the data but does not own the data or have rights to use it independently.
